The Tai Chi club is run for the Welwyn/Hatfield University of the Third Age (U3A) members on Thursdays 2-3pm during term times. Anyone is free to come and watch but you have to join the U3A in order to participate. The U3A is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full-time paid employment which aims to provide opportunities for continuing intellectual, cultural and aesthetic development for its members. The annual membership fee is around £16.
Tai Chi is a form of slow exercise particularly suited to older people. It originates from China and is practised daily by many millions of people all over the world. It is elegant and captivating to watch. Participants find that it calms the mind, improves balance, co-ordination and flexibility whilst exercising the joints without any strain. It is recommended by doctors and heart specialists for its health-giving properties. More details can be found on the U3A website.
